'Awd Tuts' Cottages .............................................................
.. .. ............two beautiful cottages in Whitby - North Yorkshire

.. ..
Historic maritime Whitby with stunning Whitby Abbey ruins high up on a ridge overlooking the coast (still used as a navigation marker by shipping) is the perfect coastal holiday destination. Captain Cook trained here, and Bram Stoker was inspired by the church yard and abbey in Whitby to write 'Dracula'. Whitby jet stone, the town's iconic deep black stone popular with the Victorians, is on sale in many unique craft shops and the Victorian bay offers fantastic sandy seaside fun for the kids including boat trips from Whitby's historic harbour.

'Awd Tuts'
Cottages - Luxury self catering holiday cottages in Whitby

'Awd Tuts' Cottages consist of two beautiful properties in the North Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby.

Riverside Cottage
is a modern styled property ideally located overlooking the River Esk from its vantage point beneath the old coastal railway viaduct. It is a picturesque location providing opportunities to spot many wild birds and river animals (including seals) from the riverbank or from the first floor balcony of the cottage while sipping a glass of wine! Riverside Cottage sleeps up to 6 persons comfortably and offers superb centrally-heated accomodation with all required amenities.

Awd Tuts Cottage is our second cottage, situated in the very heart of Whitby's 'old town' with its cobbled streets and quaint shops, just metres away from beautiful Whitby harbour. Awd Tuts is a 17th century cottage and was originally built in the year 1640. Awd Tuts Cottage sleeps up to 5 persons and offers comfortable 'old world' charm but with all modern amenities.

Both of our cottages in Whitby offer exceptional accommodation, style, cleanliness, and value for money. Whitby is contained within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park close to the nearby resorts of Sandsend, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough. Our self-catering cottages are well maintained by the owners, Mike & Louise, for that extra personal touch. Our cottages in Yorkshire offer you that perfect home from home whether it be for a family gathering or a romantic getaway for couples wanting to be alone. Whitby harbourside at night is a great place to enjoy a fantastic atmosphere with many exceptional reataurants, pubs and tavernas.

The historic fishing village of Whitby, with its magnificent beach, safe bathing and varied holiday pastimes, is situated in a prime position on the North Yorkshire Coast. Just inland is the beautiful North Yorks Moors National Park, the perimeter of which is easily accessible from a network of major roads. However, once within the park's 550 square miles of forests and wild moorland which rises to a plateau height of 1000ft there is a magical air of peace, quietness and solitude.

In cultivated valleys, small streams meander to meet the River Esk through tiny hamlets. To the nature lover, the moor and coast offer a spectacle of scenic views, secluded picnic spots and a variety of nature trails for observation of plant life, birds and animals. The rugged coastline provides a fascinating panorama of small sandy coves, interspersed with the sea cliffs which rise some 600ft. to meet the moorland. Huddled at the base of some of these cliffs, or precariously perched on the sides, unique fishing villages and old smuggling centres such as Staithes, Runswick Bay or Robin Hood's Bay, offer striking comparison to the moorland villages such as Goathland (famous as Aidensfield Village in Heartbeat), Danby or Castleton, where sheep and curlew are sometimes one's only company.

There is a galaxy of historic abbeys, monasteries, priories and castles within the area while sections of the original Roman Road still remain on the moor, as well as many moorland crosses, which acted as traveller's signposts, passing points or centres of religious ceremony in days gone by.

Fishing can be enjoyed at sea, from the River Esk and reservoirs. Many local fishermen offer pleasure boat trips or fishing parties departing from Whitby harbour daily. There are a number of horse-riding establishments and golf courses in the vicinity. Steam locomotives of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway can carry you through the unique ice-age valleys of the National Park whilst inland and in Whitby itself, local craftsmen still produce take-home souvenirs such as wood carving, pottery, jet jewellery, paintings and craft items.
